Left Handers Celebrate

This week we celebrated National Left Handers Day. Statistics suggest that left-handed
people might be more creative, intelligent, imaginative, and multi-talented. We know
there are fewer lefties than righties, but did you know only 10-12 percent of people are
left-handed? To be fair, lefties also seem to have the best or the worst handwriting.
Studies don’t seem to have a theory about why this is true. And finally, science says
lefties are predominately right brain thinkers, which is where our creativity is said to
reside.

Fun facts for the left-handers:
 Most orthopedic surgeons, mathematicians, and librarians are left-handed.
 Lefties excel in sports like tennis, baseball, swimming, and boxing.
 They are more likely to have a 131 or higher IQ – Albert Einstein was a lefty.
 Left-handers tend to have better rhythm and excel at visualization.
 8 of our U.S. presidents have been lefties, including James A. Garfield, Herbert
Hoover, Harry S Truman, Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Bill
Clinton, and Barack Obama.
 Left-handed people often showcase great language and leadership skills.

In years past, there was a stigma and shame associated with being left-handed,
thankfully it has faded, but the mystery and wonder remain. Maybe we’ll never know
what causes left-handedness or why it affects people’s lives so dramatically.
All in all, being left-handed has advantages and there’s no need to associate stigma

– When children become entangled, strangulation can occur in less than a minute.

other window coverings with cords.
– About 200 incidents involving children up to 8 years old occurred due to strangulation hazards on window covering cords from

– Injuries ranged from a scar around the neck, quadriplegia, and even permanent brain damage.

What to do?

We Remember

This Memorial Day, Statewide Blinds honors America’s military men and women who lost their
lives fighting for our country. We also want to honor those family members who were left
behind, they too sacrificed for our nation. We are grateful.
The holiday is observed on the last Monday of May, a time of year when weather is turning
warmer, and schools and universities are adjourning for summer break. To Americans,
Memorial Day weekend marks the unofficial beginning of summer.
This Memorial Day, many people will attend parades, go to the beach, or have cook-outs with
friends and family. But at its heart, Memorial Day is a day when Americans reflect on the
