We are quickly approaching the 2022-2023 school year; I know, crazy right! This comes with whole new stresses for both parents and kids. For most kids there will be new teachers, new classrooms, and maybe even a new school.
As parents we gather our kids school supplies, make annual doctor’s appointments, and get them a much-needed haircut; I get it, it can be busy and quite overwhelming.
Here are some tips that will hopefully make your back to school transition a little easier.
Let’s first talk about something that might slips our minds when it comes to going back to school, their bedrooms. It’s important to make sure that their rooms are well-equipped to help set them up for success.
First, consider installing noise and light controlling window treatments, this will do two things. It will provide them with a quiet environment when it comes time to study or do their homework. It will also provide the appropriate amount of light, making it easier to see.
Another essential item to consider having in their room is a desk or homework space. We often assume the kids can just do their homework at the kitchen table, but this can be very distracting for kids. Often, this is around the same time we are in the kitchen making dinner or maybe someone is watching TV in the living room. Providing a built-in workstation in their bedroom, that is organized and away from distraction, can help keep them focused and lead to better performance in the classroom.
I also find it super beneficial when their bedroom closet is well organized. If they don’t have a built-in closet organizer, both of you are missing out. It provides the necessary organization when it comes time to get ready for school and takes some of the stress out of your morning routine. Plus, you already need to go through their closet anyway, to make room for the new school clothes, you might as well tackle these tasks as the same time.
Lastly, consider adding an additional room organizer where they can store extra school supplies like pencils, crayons, paper, and folders. This is also a great way to display their accomplishments such as their student of the month Certificate and that first-place trophy. Remember that when we teach our children how to be organized when they are young, we are setting them up for success as adults!
