Will a retractable awning from Statewide Blinds keep the inside of my house cooler?

The short answer is… Yes, it can! A retractable awning, added to the sun exposure side of your home, can keep your house as much as 20 degrees cooler in the summer. By preventing the sun from shining directly into your home, you can expect to save some money on your electric bill and keep temperatures more consistent in your home.

Should I worry about my awning leaking when it rains?

No need to worry about your awning leaking when it rains. Constructed from a sturdy and waterproof material, our awnings are made to withstand Florida’s typical rainy season. We do however recommend, if a severe storm is headed your way that you retract your awning fully to protect it from high winds.

Since there are no poles in the front of my awning, how is it being held up securely?

Our awnings are designed with extremely strong arms that create tension and push the awning out. Attached directly to the exterior of your home, they are made to be self-supporting and are equipped with hefty springs. Retractable awnings are designed to extend for an instant covered area and retract again when not in use. While you are free to leave them extended all the time, they can be retracted daily if desired.

Will I need to take down my awning during the wintertime?

No need to store your awning when wintertime arrives. Our awnings are designed to withstand Florida’s seasons year-round. You might not use your retractable awning as often during the cooler months of our Florida winters, but it is there any time you need a little extra protection from the sun.

How long should I expect my awning to last?

Most retractable awnings are expected to last about 15 years. Of course, how frequently you have it serviced and how well you have maintained it, will ultimately make a difference. Like any exterior item around your home, you will want to keep the surface and hinges free of debris and well maintained.

Is an electrician necessary when wiring my motorized awning?

Awnings can be operated manually or motorized for your convenience. If you decide to get an awning that is motorized, it will of course need to be plugged into an electrical outlet. If you do not have an exterior outlet close enough to plug in the awning, an electrical box will need to be added. This does require an electrician.
