Maintaining Your Shutters

Today I want to go over some tips that will help expand the life of your shutters. Shutters are quite a big investment and should last years with the proper maintenance.

Operating Louvers

If you want to increase the longevity of your shutters, make sure you are being gentle when you are operating them. Your shutters should open and close with ease so pay attention if you start to feel some resistance. If shutters are feeling stiff or loose take a screwdriver and adjust, this will help keep the louvers in place.

Upkeeping Your Exterior Shutter Hinges

Your exterior shutters are exposed to many elements daily and require some extra TLC. Show them some love by wiping them down once a month. We recommend also adding a drop of oil to the top of the hinges to keep them opening and closing effectively. After applying the oil open and close your shutters a couple times to allow the oil to get all the way inside of the hinge. Your shutters will thank you!

Choose your cleaning products wisely

When cleaning your wood shutters use a wood cleaner with a feather duster or smooth cloth. Cleaning shutters made with vinyl or other materials use regular dish soap and water make sure you wipe dry when you are done.

Removing Stains From Your Shutters

Stains on your shutters can be an eyesore. Use a stain remover and clean cloth to help treat mild stains. For tougher stains it might take a couple washes to fully remove it.
